Run for Office
The only way to change government is to be in the room where decisions are made. Jefferson County has hundreds of elected and appointed positions — school boards, city councils, special districts, and more. Libertarians belong in every one of them.
WHY RUN AS A LIBERTARIAN?
Running for office as a Libertarian isn’t just about winning — it’s about changing the conversation. Every Libertarian on the ballot forces the major parties to address liberty issues they’d rather ignore. Every vote we earn builds the foundation for the next race.
And increasingly, we are winning — especially at the local level, where name recognition and grassroots organizing matter more than party machine money.
We help with:
- Filing paperwork and ballot access requirements
- Promoting your campaign through our network and social media
- Connecting you with experienced Libertarian candidates statewide
- Fundraising on your behalf through our donor network
OFFICES TO RUN FOR
Jefferson County School Board (JCSD)
One of the largest school districts in Colorado. School board members set curriculum policy, manage a $1B+ budget, and hire the superintendent. Libertarian candidates have made real inroads here.
Next election: November 2025 (odd-year local elections)
Jefferson County Board of Commissioners
Three commissioners govern all unincorporated Jeffco — land use, taxes, public health, and more. These are high-profile races where a well-organized Libertarian campaign can make a serious impact.
Next election: November 2026
City Councils (Lakewood, Golden, Arvada, Wheat Ridge, etc.)
Local city councils control zoning, local taxes, policing policy, and spending. These are often won with just a few hundred votes — well within reach for a motivated Libertarian with community ties.
Next election: Various — contact us to find your city’s next opening
Colorado State Legislature (House & Senate)
Jeffco spans multiple state legislative districts. Running for the Colorado General Assembly puts Libertarian ideas directly into the state policy debate and builds name recognition for future races.
Next election: November 2026
Special Districts & Appointed Boards
Water boards, fire districts, metro districts, library boards — hundreds of positions across Jeffco that most voters don’t even know exist. These are some of the easiest races to win and the most directly impactful on daily life.
Note: Often running unopposed. Step up!
